How To Move a Tensile Tester

So, you just purchased this nice new machine from frank bacon and decided you don’t like the way it looks in your living room, so you want to move it to another room. How do you safely move the machine?

First, easiest option: on a Palette. Under the machine.

Second option, use the forklift to move the on the crosshead, NOT from the top, and do not hit the load cells on the machine.

The center crosshead (typically on the screws) is the strongest portion of the machine. It is designed to carry the full force capacity of the test system which far exceeds the weight of the machine. Do not lift from the top, as many machines are not designed for that to be a lift point. On Hydraulic machines if you pull from the top crosshead, you will remove the piston from the cylinder.

Thirdly, if you do not have a forklift and have a crane you can add straps on center crosshead and base to lift with a crane.

That is the easiest way to pick up a tensile tester.
