Reconditioned Brinell Hardness Tester – Before & After
Reconditioned Brinell Hardness Tester: Detroit Model PHL – 3 Long Stroke Brinell
Frank Bacon Machinery has been reconditioning Brinell Hardness Testers along with other Material Testing Equipment since 1953! Our reconditioned Brinell Hardness Testers comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty and certified to current ASTM E10 requirements. They also come with our standard MDNA (Machinery Dealer National Association) 30 day satisfaction guaranteed return privilege. Above are pictures of the machine prior to receiving the Frank Bacon Machinery rebuild process. As you can see the machine has been used for a long time in a very rough environment. The wiring, electronics, timers, & hydraulic system all need to be replaced with new components.
What is Brinell Hardness Testing?
Brinell Hardness testing was invented in the early 1900’s and is still used today through industry to check the hardness value of forgings or castings where the grain structure is too course for Rockwell or Vickers hardness testing. Brinell Hardness tests are typically performed on large parts and many times require a large hydraulic machine with table and a long stroke actuator to accompany a wide variety of parts. Iron and Steel parts most commonly utilize a 3000 kgf force with 10mm diameter ball. Aluminum and other softer alloys utilize a 500 kgf force with 10mm diameter ball. The most common standard for brinell hardness testing is ASTM E10.

The Final Product
Above are pictures of the same machine after reconditioning. The machine is stripped of all the original paint, painted and refinished to look and operate better than new. It will ship out to the customer with a calibration certificate that is good for a year. Calibration should be performed annually to meet ASTM requirements. If you have an old Brinell Hardness Tester that needs reconditioning or need a Brinell Hardness Tester in house we have many in stock in various makes, models, sizes and price points.
