What Is ASTM D3574?

ASTM D3574 is a procedure used for tests of flexible polyurethane foams. Testing by ASTM D3574, displays a full outlook on the material’s properties and abilities. This page introduces you to ASTM D3574 testing, including a step by step guide and equipment necessary to perform these tests. You are in the right place to get all the equipment and fixturing you need for ASTM D3574 testing.

ASTM D3574 Step By Step

  1. Measure the specimen thickness.
  2. Place the specimen on the lower platen in the compression tester.
  3. Bring the upper compression platen down to touch the specimen 75-80% of the original thickness at a rate of 250 mm per minute.
  4. Allow the specimen to rest for 6 minutes with no contact from the platen to specimen.
  5. Bring the platen down into contact with the specimen at 50 mm per minute and determine the thickness at a force of 4.5 N.
  6. Indent the specimen at 50 mm per minute by 25% of thickness. Determine the force after 60 seconds.
  7. Increase the deflection to 65%. Determine the force after 60 seconds.
  8. Compress the specimen 25% of this thickness at 50 mm per minute.
  9. Analyze the results with MTGenius Test Software.
