How to Calibrate Force Machines According to ASTM E4 ISO 17025 A2LA Accredited

Frank Bacon Machinery

In this video we calibrate a 100kN Instron 1125 machine. To calibrate force machines we follow the Frank Bacon Procedure that is ISO 17025 accredited under A2LA that follows ASTM E4. In this case we use two different load cells, a 60k standard and 10k standard. We will verify from 250 pounds up to 22,500 pounds. First, we will use the 60k standard to verify points and then use the 10k to get lower points.

Step 1: Apply upper range force and return to no force two times to ensure the cell will return to 0 and there is no memory.

Step 2: Step through load points as defined by ASTM E4 to verify accuracy throughout the range of the load cell.

Step 3: Ensure the standard and the machine load cells both return to zero after each run.

Step 4: Second run of verification points.

Step 5: Change the standard calibration load cell to verify lower verification points and repeat steps above.

Step 6: Second run of verification points.

Step 7: Record temperature and humidity to identify changes throughput the calibration.

Step 8: Input verification points into Frank Bacon ISO 17025 workbook to identify any out of tolerance issues and create a calibration report.
